Madame de Pompadour Fancy Dress Costume

An amazing fancy dress costume reminiscent of 18^th Century French Court fashion. Derived from the palaces in Versailles during the Rococo era, this costume has been inspired by the most famous Courtesan and Mistress to the King of France Louis XV, Madame De Pompadour. A stunning mini Robe a la Francaise (Also known as the English Sack-Back Gown) created in a muted gold and subtle blue striped taffeta, trimmed with delicate lace and finished with a heavily decorated stomacher. The stomacher showcases a row of bows in a vertical fashion (known as eschelles which was pioneered by Madame De Pompadour herself!). Additional detail includes a narrow hand pleated trim around the neckline, hemline, stomacher and sleeves. The sleeves end just above the elbow and are close fitting to the arm and below the sleeves are deep ruffles of lace. The back of the dress, typical of this style, is pleated at the neckline in double box pleats and extending down to the hem.

The bodice is created with a lacing fastening to the rear underneath the box pleats but also features a hidden side fastening of hooks and bars which are concealed by the stomacher. Ideal accessories to compliment this Madame De Pompadour fancy dress costume include white lace parasol, white gloves and white holdups with bows.
